Isaiah 43: 18-19
Do not remember the former things, or consider the things of old. I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
Thoughts To Ponder
If you saw last week’s image, compare it with this week’s. How are they the same and different?
Think about the desert again. Why do you think it’s so important for there to be a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert?
Do you remember last week’s Spark? The image was a hot burning desert and we talked about what it feels like when we know we need to be forgiven.
Today’s passage tells us that we can make that feeling a thing of the past! We do not have to spend our time worrying about the old ways when we were so tired because we were always thinking about the things we did wrong.
Instead, the prophet Isaiah tells us—with lots of excitement—that much better days are ahead. God is creating something utterly new. He’s not just putting a little bandaid on our problems. He’s bringing a completely new way of doing things. His new way takes the heat and exhaustion of the desert and fills it with life-giving water.
Where does this life-giving water come from, do you think?
